New Insights Into The Iron Age Archaeology Of Edom Southern Jordan

by Erez Ben-Yosef, New Insights Into The Iron Age Archaeology Of Edom Southern Jordan Book available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download New Insights Into The Iron Age Archaeology Of Edom Southern Jordan books, Situated south of the Dead Sea, near the famous Nabatean capital of Petra, the Faynan region in Jordan contains the largest deposits of copper ore in the southern Levant. The Edom Lowlands Regional Archaeology Project (ELRAP) takes an anthropological-archaeology approach to the deep-time study of culture change in one of the Old World's most important locales for studying technological development. Using innovative digital tools for data recording, curation, analyses, and dissemination, the researchers focused on ancient mining and metallurgy as the subject of surveys and excavations related to the Iron Age (ca. 1200-500 BCE), when the first local, historical state-level societies appeared in this part of the eastern Mediterranean basin. This comprehensive and important volume challenges the current scholarly consensus concerning the emergence and historicity of the Iron Age polity of biblical Edom and some of its neighbors, such as ancient Israel. Excavations and radiometric dating establish a new chronology for Edom, adding almost 500 more years to the Iron Age, including key periods of biblical history when David, Solomon, and the Egyptian pharaoh Shoshenq I are alleged to have interacted with Edom. Included is a 7 gigabyte DVD with over 55,000 files of additional data and photographs from the project.

The World And The Word Making Sense Of Social Science In An Age Of Conflict Opposition And Grace

by Dr. Herbert L. Green Jr., The World And The Word Making Sense Of Social Science In An Age Of Conflict Opposition And Grace Book available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The World And The Word Making Sense Of Social Science In An Age Of Conflict Opposition And Grace books, Jesus very presence as the New Testament age unfolded (1st century A.D.), engendered opposition, created confl ict, while ushering in grace. His ideas were considered radical. Why is this so? The NIV Archeological Study Bible (2005), NIV Student Bible, et al. and corroborating Extra-Biblical evidence provide a context for the Word view about Jesus in Biblical history, and supports aspects of the social and physical sciences in terms of cultural, socio-economic, political, historical, archeological, and philosophical (apologetics) evidence. As the pages of this book unfold, there is an internal consistency with social science and The Bible. However, where such consistency appeared to diverge, this author attempts to fi lter out the noise by applying critical thinking criteria to a Worldview that may not be consistent with the Word view. The goal of this book therefore is to provide some exposition (Greek apologia) of the Word and see how the World fi ts. Born again Christians can be credible scientists and not compromise Gods Word. The Hebrew Bible

by Frederick E. Greenspahn, The Hebrew Bible Book available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Hebrew Bible books, In April of 2001, the headline in the Los Angeles Times read, “Doubting the Story of the Exodus.” It covered a sermon that had been delivered by the rabbi of a prominent local congregation over the holiday of Passover. In it, he said, “The truth is that virtually every modern archeologist who has investigated the story of the exodus, with very few exceptions, agrees that the way the Bible describes the exodus is not the way it happened, if it happened at all.” This seeming challenge to the biblical story captivated the local public. Yet as the rabbi himself acknowledged, his sermon contained nothing new. The theories that he described had been common knowledge among biblical scholars for over thirty years, though few people outside of the profession know their relevance. New understandings concerning the Bible have not filtered down beyond specialists in university settings. There is a need to communicate this research to a wider public of students and educated readers outside of the academy. This volume seeks to meet this need, with accessible and engaging chapters describing how archeology, theology, ancient studies, literary studies, feminist studies, and other disciplines now understand the Bible.

Science And The Bible

by David Instone-Brewer, Science And The Bible Book available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Science And The Bible books, Is the Bible fundamentally at odds with science? Science and the Bible are often pitted against each other, causing many to either defend science at Scripture's expense, or vice versa. Instead, what if we saw them as friends? Can Christians appreciate scientific insights like they do archaeological discoveries--as a source of knowledge to illuminate the biblical world and our own? In Science and the Bible, David Instone-Brewer takes a refreshing and non-antagonistic approach, asking how science can aid our interpretation of the Bible. The result is stimulating on topics such as God's omnipresence, the origin of languages, the nature of eternity, the relationship of spirit and soul, the reality of resurrection, and Jesus' human experience. In short, readable chapters, Science and the Bible enables the curious layperson to reread the Bible with fresh perspectives from modern scientific insights. The Scripture in Context series is driven by the conviction that there is nothing as exciting, direct, provocative, and spiritually enlightening as the Bible when we read it as it was meant to be read. Each book in the series dives into the ancient cultural context behind Bible passages, examining the effect this context had on what the Bible writers were saying and how we should understand their words today. When we read the Bible in light of its context, it is anything but boring. Instead, God's word can speak to us as powerfully as it did to those who first read it.
