T T Clark Handbook Of Septuagint Research

by William A. Ross, T T Clark Handbook Of Septuagint Research Book available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download T T Clark Handbook Of Septuagint Research books, Students and scholars now widely recognize the importance of the Septuagint to the history of the Greek language, the textual development of the Bible, and to Jewish and Christian religious life in both the ancient and modern worlds. This handbook is designed for those who wish to engage the Septuagint in their research, yet have been unsure where to turn for guidance or concise, up-to-date discussion. The contributors break down the barriers involved in the technical debates and sub-specialties as far as possible, equipping readers with the tools and knowledge necessary to conduct their own research. Each chapter is written by a leading Septuagint scholar and focuses upon a major area of research in the discipline, providing an overview of the topic, key debates and views, a survey or demonstration of the methods involved, and pointers towards ongoing research questions. By exploring origins, language, text, reception, theology, translation, and commentary, with a final summary of the literature, this handbook encourages active engagement with the most important issues in the field and provides an essential resource for specialists and non-specialists alike.

The Use Of The Septuagint In New Testament Research

by Tim McLay, The Use Of The Septuagint In New Testament Research Book available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Use Of The Septuagint In New Testament Research books, Too often the Septuagint is misunderstood or, worse, ignored in New Testament studies. In this book R. Timothy McLay makes a sustained argument for the influence of the Greek Jewish Scriptures on the New Testament and offers basic principles for bridging the research gap between these two critical texts. McLay explains the use of the Septuagint in the New Testament by looking in depth at actual New Testament citations of the Jewish Scriptures. This work reveals the true extent of the Septuagint s impact on the text and theology of the New Testament. Indeed, given the textual diversity that existed during the first century, the Jewish Scriptures as they were known, read, and interpreted in the Greek language provided the basis for much, if not most, of the interpretive context of the New Testament writers. Complete with English translations, a glossary of terms, an extensive bibliography, and helpful indexes, this book will give readers a new appreciation of the Septuagint as an important tool for interpreting the New Testament.

Handbuch Der Textfunde Vom Toten Meer

by Armin Lange, Handbuch Der Textfunde Vom Toten Meer Book available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Handbuch Der Textfunde Vom Toten Meer books, English summary: The Dead Sea Scrolls Handbook provides the first detailed introduction to the literary works from the library of Qumran and elsewhere. The first volume studies the manuscripts of the books of the Hebrew Bible and looks at their textual history. The text of each biblical book developed individually, and many are characterized by textual plurality. These individual texts merged into the text of the Hebrew Bible after the completion of the canon. For each biblical book, the author describes the textual witnesses from the Qumran library and the other sites in the Judean desert and classifies them textually. He also describes the significance of the Dead Sea Scrolls for the individual textual histories of each biblical book and focuses on the implications for its interpretation. In the introduction, he shows the extent to which the Dead Sea Scrolls shed new light on the overall textual history of the Hebrew Bible.
