The Master Stoic
by Russell Davis, The Master Stoic Book available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Master Stoic books, "The Master Stoic: Advanced Principles and Theories of Stoicism That Will Transform Your Approach to Life," is written for individuals who want to master the philosophy of Stoicism in their lives. However, before you proceed with this book, it's recommended that you read first the beginner's guide, "Stoicism: A Beginner's Guide to the Stoic Way of Life." This will allow you an easier understanding of the basic tenets of Stoicism. In this second book, a more detailed explanation of the doctrines of each of the significant philosophers of Stoicism will be presented, together with practical examples of how you can apply these beliefs in your daily dealings. It's beneficial for you to learn about philosophy not because it's a sign of erudition but because you can utilize the tenets properly as your guiding principles in your daily life. What's the use of mastering all the beliefs of these philosophers, but you don't put them into practice? Knowledge becomes power - only - when you use it. So, thanks again for purchasing this book. Have fun reading and learning!Naval War College Review

Hegel S Antiquity
by Will D. Desmond, Hegel S Antiquity Book available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Hegel S Antiquity books, Hegel's Antiquity aims to summarize, contextualize, and criticize Hegel's understanding and treatment of major aspects of the classical world, approaching each of the major areas of his historical thinking in turn: politics, art, religion, philosophy, and history itself. The discussion excerpts relevant details from a range of Hegel's works, with an eye both to the ancient sources with which he worked, and the contemporary theories (German aesthetic theory, Romanticism, Kantianism, Idealism (including Hegel's own), and emerging historicism) which coloured his readings. What emerges is that Hegel's interest in both Greek and Roman antiquity was profound and is essential for his philosophy, arguably providing the most important components of his vision of world-history: Hegel is generally understood as a thinker of modernity (in various senses), but his modernity can only be understood in essential relation to its predecessors and 'others', notably the Greek world and Roman world whose essential 'spirit' he assimilates to his own notion of Geist.A New Stoicism

A New Stoicism
by Lawrence C. Becker, A New Stoicism Book available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download A New Stoicism books, What would stoic ethics be like today if stoicism had survived as a systematic approach to ethical theory, if it had coped successfully with the challenges of modern philosophy and experimental science? A New Stoicism proposes an answer to that question, offered from within the stoic tradition but without the metaphysical and psychological assumptions that modern philosophy and science have abandoned. Lawrence Becker argues that a secular version of the stoic ethical project, based on contemporary cosmology and developmental psychology, provides the basis for a sophisticated form of ethical naturalism, in which virtually all the hard doctrines of the ancient Stoics can be clearly restated and defended. Becker argues, in keeping with the ancients, that virtue is one thing, not many; that it, and not happiness, is the proper end of all activity; that it alone is good, all other things being merely rank-ordered relative to each other for the sake of the good; and that virtue is sufficient for happiness. Moreover, he rejects the popular caricature of the stoic as a grave figure, emotionally detached and capable mainly of endurance, resignation, and coping with pain. To the contrary, he holds that while stoic sages are able to endure the extremes of human suffering, they do not have to sacrifice joy to have that ability, and he seeks to turn our attention from the familiar, therapeutic part of stoic moral training to a reconsideration of its theoretical foundations. The Mutual Influence Of Christianity And The Stoic School

A Reference Guide To Stoicism
by John L. Bowman, A Reference Guide To Stoicism Book available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download A Reference Guide To Stoicism books, Stoicism is a 2,300 year-old Greek and Roman philosophy that addressed human happiness. This book is a compendium of principal Stoic philosophers Cicero, Seneca, Epictetus and Marcus Aurelius' writings arranged by topic. on escape Seneca wrote whatever your destination you will be followed by your failings; on death Marcus Aurelius advised be content with your allocation of time; on happiness Cicero believed that a happy life depends on very little; and on suicide Epictetus suggested to quit the game when it no longer pleases you and depart. These are a few profound ideas from an ancient philosophy of life that explained things are what we make them; contentment does not come from externals; ambition, avarice and luxury impede happiness; use proper judgments; remain indifferent to matters outside choice; and pleasure and passion are the primary causes of human unhappiness. the writings of ancient Stoics reproduced in this book are as relevant today as they were millennia ago.Cyclop Dia Of Biblical Theological And Ecclesiastical Literature
