Martin Walser In Perspective

by K. Stuart Parkes, Martin Walser In Perspective Book available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Martin Walser In Perspective books, The last decade has undoubtedly been the most controversial in the long literary career of Martin Walser. This volume presents a review of this career, going far beyond short-lived arguments to present an insightful overview of much of his work. It considers not only major aspects of his writing, covering both his literary beginnings and the most recent works, but also different, previously neglected features of his persona and his writing, namely his activity as a university teacher and his art criticism. In addition, fruitful comparisons are made with other writers, such as Proust, Grass and Uwe Johnson. At the same time, recent controversies are also considered with major attention being paid to Walser's public speeches and those works of fiction which have been seen by some as demanding the end of German self-recriminations over the Nazi past. This volume is unique in that much space is devoted to both sides of the argument. It will provide stimulating reading to all those interested in Germany and German literature.

Forgiveness In Perspective

by Christopher R. Allers, Forgiveness In Perspective Book available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Forgiveness In Perspective books, Amidst the cacophony of claims made about forgiveness, this book serves to aid in an effort to put "forgiveness in perspective." Marieke Smit and Christopher R. Allers have collected here ten essays written by twelve authors from around the world and across the disciplinary spectrum including philosophers, practitioners, psychologists, literary theorists, and prison chaplains. All the essays offer a perspective on forgiveness and put forgiveness in perspective whether by tracing what forgiveness "is," how this religious inheritence is worked out in our secularizing societies, how forgiveness works in our quotidian experience, or a particular manifestation in a particular context such as marriage, prison, or after an abortion, to name a few. The multi-disciplinary character of this book provides a multi-disciplinary appeal as well as a resource to enlarge one's own perspective on this perplexing, enigmatic, and wonderfully complex concept of forgiveness. Marieke Smit is a researcher at the Center for Prison Pastoral Care at the University of Tilburg. The Netherlands. Her research concerns the role of forgiveness in detention. She is also working as a prison chaplain in Dutch prisons. Christopher R. Allers (M.A., Institute for Christian Studies, Toronto) is Adjunct Professor of Philosophy at Cornerstone University (Grand Rapids, MI) and Sessional Instructer in Philosophy at the Institute for Christian Studies, Toronto (ICS) where he is also a doctoral student in the conjoint degree program between ICS and the Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam. He is currently working on a dissertation on forgiveness which is tentatively titled The Miracle of Forgiveness.

The Family In Past Perspective

by Ellen J. Kendall, The Family In Past Perspective Book available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Family In Past Perspective books, This volume takes a more comprehensive view of past familial dynamics than has been previously attempted. By applying interdisciplinary perspectives to periods ranging from the Prehistoric to the Modern, it informs a wider understanding of the term family, and the implications of family dynamics for children and their social networks in the past. Contributors drawn from across the humanities and social sciences present research addressing three primary themes: modes of kinship and familial structure, the convergence and divergence between the idealised image and realities of family life, and the provision of care within families. These themes are interconnected, as the idea and image of family shapes familial structure, which in turn defines the type of care and protection that families provide to their members. The papers in this volume provide new research to challenge assumptions and provoke new ways of thinking about past families as functionally adaptive, socially connected, and ideologically powerful units of society, just as they are in the present. A broad focus on the networks created by familial units also allows the experiences of historically underrepresented women and children to be highlighted in a way that underlines their interconnectedness with all members of past societies. The Family in Past Perspective builds a much-needed bridge across disciplinary boundaries. The wide scope of the book hmakes important contributions, and informs fields ranging from bioarchaeology to women's history and childhood studies.

Perspectives On The Family In Spain Past And Present

by David Sven Reher, Perspectives On The Family In Spain Past And Present Book available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Perspectives On The Family In Spain Past And Present books, This is the first comprehensive study of family life throughout Spain between 1700 and 1970. Using local and aggregate source material, David Reher builds upon the growing interest of historians and social scientists in the study of the family, and its importance for the demographic, social, and economic reproduction of society. The study adopts methodological approaches from a number of disciplines and encompasses the great regional and local complexity characteristic of Spanish society both now and in the past. The family is considered as a dynamic decision-making unit intent on securing maximum benefit for its members, though the success of this strategy is contingent on the prevailing social, demographic, economic, and cultural realities. Key subjects considered include co-residence patterns, family systems, family demography, family economies, kinship networks, marriage markets, infant care, the elderly, the limits of vulnerability, and the individual life-course.

Pastoral Counselling In Inter Cultural Perspective

by Emmanuel Yartekwei Lartey, Pastoral Counselling In Inter Cultural Perspective Book available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Pastoral Counselling In Inter Cultural Perspective books, Pastoral counselling has in recent years become a highly specialized activity in Western (especially American) society, informed largely by scientific psychology. The actual practice of pastoral counselling in any society brings out tensions in theology, psychology and culture. This book proposes an inter-cultural approach to pastoral counselling which draws on the culture, values, beliefs and views of the people themselves. Some views of human life prevailing in southern Ghana are examined and their import for Christian theology is expressed. Proposals of the essentials of an authentic Ghanaian Christian view of persons are made. There is then an investigation of the assumptions of two forms of western psychotherapy, namely Gestalt therapy and Family therapy, from an African perspective. Comparative case studies of a Ghanaian indigenous church with branches in Britain and U.S.A. and a British urban church with a counselling ministry are also given.
