Therapeutic Hypothermia After Cardiac Arrest

by Justin B. Lundbye, Therapeutic Hypothermia After Cardiac Arrest Book available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Therapeutic Hypothermia After Cardiac Arrest books, Therapeutic hypothermia has emerged as a very important treatment option for patients with cardiac arrest as it provides significant protection from developing neurologic injury once the patient has been successfully resuscitated. Studies have demonstrated over 15% absolute risk reduction in death and neurologic injury using this therapy. Although hospitals and medical centers have become familiar with this important intervention it still remains greatly under utilized due to an experience and lack of resources to safely and effectively deploy such a program. The objective of this book is to educate and familiarize both providers and institutions as to how to develop and deploy and provide therapeutic hypothermia to their patients. The current knowledge for this is provided by speakers and national experts and also by literature review. There are several courses being provided on this as well throughout the US. These are good venues for people to come and see and get hands on experience, but there still needs to be a concrete book with references on how to go about getting this program started.

Therapeutic Hypothermia

by Samuel Tisherman, Therapeutic Hypothermia Book available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Therapeutic Hypothermia books, Therapeutic Hypothermia will provide a review of the subject, in particular, resuscitative hypothermia and include known mechanisms of action and results from both mechanistic and outcome laboratory studies and clinical trials. Cooling methods and potential side effects of hypothermia will be addressed as well as recommendations for future laboratory and clinical research. This volume will be of interest to both the researcher interested in therapeutic hypothermia as well as the clinician interested in the potential use of therapeutic hypothermia in their patient population.

Therapeutic Hypothermia In Brain Injury

by Farid Sadaka, Therapeutic Hypothermia In Brain Injury Book available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Therapeutic Hypothermia In Brain Injury books, This book describes the evidence behind the application of Therapeutic Hypothermia on patients with injury to the brain and spinal cord, that includes ischemia reperfusion after cardiac arrest or asphyxiation, traumatic brain injury, acute ischemic stroke, hemorrhagic stroke, refractory intracranial hypertension, cerebral edema in acute liver failure, subarachnoid hemorrhage, as well as spinal cord injury. This book discusses the mechanisms by which therapeutic hypothermia can mitigate the pathophysiologies responsible for secondary brain injury, and provides information to help guide this treatment with regard to timing, depth, duration, and management of side-effects. The book also discusses the methods and technologies used to induce and maintain therapeutic hypothermia. It also describes how hypothermia can influence the ability to prognosticate these injured patients and provides grounds for future directions in the application of and research with therapeutic hypothermia.

Implementation Of Therapeutic Hypothermia In Post Cardiac Arrest Patients

by Zoe Chan, Implementation Of Therapeutic Hypothermia In Post Cardiac Arrest Patients Book available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Implementation Of Therapeutic Hypothermia In Post Cardiac Arrest Patients books, Problem: Effective therapeutic hypothermic treatment involves quick and careful management in order to optimize neurological outcomes and improve the morbidity and mortality associated with cardiac arrest. Currently there is no standardized guideline in implementation of therapeutic hypothermia across institutions throughout the country. There are many studies that look into this treatment; however, the sample sizes have been small and many confounding variables have affected outcome. This literature review aims to look at recent studies involving different aspects of treatment such as target temperature of cooling, method of cooling, and investing new novel techniques in cooling treatment that are used to improve patient outcomes. Methods: The search for articles was performed using the Weill Cornell Medical Library to access PubMed using the following search terms: "therapeutic hypothermia" and "brain", "cardiac arrest" and "brain", "target temperature" and "therapeutic hypothermia", "methods of cooling in therapeutic hypothermia." Results: The search for "therapeutic hypothermia" resulted in 23,492 results while "therapeutic hypothermia cardiac arrest" yielded 4903. Many of the results were in - depth discussions about side effects, techniques of measuring cooling, and pediatric cases which were not as relevant to this review. A large amount of literature has been recently published as hypothermic treatment has been studied for many years; however, continued detailed research helps move its use into the spotlight. Overall 17 articles were used which detailed clinical trials in which hypothermia has been used, its outcomes, and effect on the brain. Conclusions: Though there have been many studies that have looked at the implementation of therapeutic hypothermia in cardiac arrest, there needs to be further evidence -based medicine in order to standardize treatment guidelines. Larger sample sizes should also be taken into account in order to capture a larger patient population that can benefit from these treatments. The goal of the following proposal will be to look into an area that has not been studied as extensively.
