Two Republics In China

by X. L. Woo, Two Republics In China Book available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Two Republics In China books, Mr. Woo continues his history of China from 1911, when the Qing dynasty was overthrown after the death of Empress Dowager Cixi, to modern times: a tumultuous century that saw chaos and warlords, invasions, regime change, confiscation of property, and later a return to a mixed economy allowing some capitalist features. In fact, China now has over 100 billionaires - but many families lost everything along the way. To understand the context of today's international face-off in the South China Sea, readers will appreciate Woo's quick briefing on the extremely bloody Japanese invasion and subsequent repression (1937 to 1941) that left a deep imprint on China's worldview. Since the last decades of the Empire, the Chinese people suffered one seismic event after another as competing political factions fought from one end of the country to the other. Chiang Kai-shek brought a semblance of order by founding the Republic of China in 1928; but the Communist Party was growing, and then came Japan. After World War II, the Communists drove Chiang Kai-shek and his Nationalist Party out in 1949, and they retreated to Taiwan, taking with them the designation 'Republic of China'. Then the author describes the social and economic devastation that attended the establishment of the People's Republic of China, the repression of capitalists - business owners and property owners in particular - and the destruction of the educated classes. Today, China is moving toward the top position among world powers, a position it enjoyed for centuries prior to Britain's Industrial Revolution. But this has been one long march, indeed.

Secrets Of Red China

by Xelou Woo, Secrets Of Red China Book available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Secrets Of Red China books, ?Secrets of Red China,? a political history, which tells quite a few secrets about the communist China, and those secrets are mostly unknown to the American readers, such as the attempted murders of Hu Jioatao, the previous chairman and party secretary before Xi Jinping, the present chairman and party secretary, and the murders were plotted by Jiang Zeming, the chairman and the party secretary before Hu Jiaotoa. Jiang wanted to have Hu killed because Hu wanted to take over all Jiang's power from the army. And another secret is the recording of the last five minutes on the plane of Lin Biao, which crashed in Mongolia. Lin was at that time was vice party chairman under Mao Zedong. The recording revealed the fact that Mao wanted to get rid of Lin and schemed the accident purposely. Both secrets are unknown to the outside world. And other secrets are put in my book too, like details of the slaughter of students on TainAnMen Square and how Wang Lijun, the police head of Chongqing City escaped to the US consulate in Chengdu City and asked for asylum. Most of US readers don't know such things. And all stuff has not been published in English yet till now I write it in English.

The Unfinished Revolution

by Tjio Kayloe, The Unfinished Revolution Book available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Unfinished Revolution books, The Unfinished Revolution is a superb new biography of Sun Yat-sen, whose life, like the confusion of his time, is not easy to interpret. His political career was marked mostly by setbacks, yet he became a cult figure in China after his death. Today he is the only 20th-century Chinese leader to be widely revered on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. In contrast, many Western historians see little in his ideas or deeds to warrant such high esteem. This book presents the most balanced account of Sun to date, one that situates him within the historical events and intellectual climate of his time. Born in the shadow of the Opium War, the young Sun saw China repeatedly humiliated in clashes with foreign powers, resulting in the loss of territory and sovereignty. When his efforts to petition the decrepit Manchu court to institute reforms failed, Sun took to revolution. Sun traversed the globe to canvass support for his cause. A notable feature of the book is its coverage of the overseas Chinese in Southeast Asia and their contributions to his uprisings on the mainland, which set the stage for the overthrow of two millennia of imperial rule in 1911. But Sun’s vision of China was not to be. Within a few years the republic was hijacked and plunged into chaos. This fascinating and immensely readable work illuminates the man and his achievements, his strengths and his weaknesses, revealing how he came to spearhead the revolution that would transform his country and yet, at his death in 1925 and still today, remain agonizingly unfinished.

New Trends In Chinese Foreign Policy

by James Char, New Trends In Chinese Foreign Policy Book available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download New Trends In Chinese Foreign Policy books, China's emergence as an increasingly important global stakeholder has become clearer following the leadership transition since the 18th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Concurrently, China's rise has also generated concerns amongst members of the international relations fraternity that the Asian giant may be moving away from keeping a low profile towards adopting an assertive stance in its foreign policy as evinced by its recent maritime behavior. The first panel addressed recent institutional developments within the Chinese political landscape, with a particular focus on the overhaul of both the civilian and military institutions that oversee China's foreign policymaking. Panel Two focused on China's important relations with the United States and Russia as well as the two other regional powers, Japan and India. The next two panels addressed trends in China's regional policy in Asia, specifically looking at China's ties with its near neighbors on the Korean peninsula, the Central Asian republics and Southeast Asia. The final panel evaluated the challenges confronting Chinese leaders in view of their country's growing international footprint in global governance as Beijing grows into its role as an economic powerhouse and a significant military power. Apart from examining the background behind China's acceptance (and rejection) of global norms within international institutions, the session also shed light on the increasing significance of information and communications technology (ICT) and cybersecurity on China's domestic political stability, economic development and its foreign relations.

Legal Thoughts Between The East And The West In The Multilevel Legal Order

by Chang-fa Lo, Legal Thoughts Between The East And The West In The Multilevel Legal Order Book available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Legal Thoughts Between The East And The West In The Multilevel Legal Order books, This book focuses on the interaction and mutual influences between the East and the West in terms of their legal systems and practices. In this regard, it highlights Professor Herbert H.P. Ma’s achievements and his efforts to bring Eastern and Western legal concepts and systems closer together. The book shows that, while there have been convergences between different legal regimes in many fields of law, diverse legal practices and approaches rooted in differing cultural, social, political and philosophical backgrounds do remain, and that these differences are not necessarily negative elements in the contemporary legal order. By examining different levels of the legal order, including domestic, regional and multilateral, it goes on to argue that identifying these diversities and addressing the interactions and mutual influences between different regimes is a worthwhile undertaking, not only in terms of mutual enrichment, but also with regard to intensifying the degree of desirable coordination between different legal systems. All chapters were written by leading experts, practitioners and scholars from different jurisdictions with expertise in various fields of law and different levels of the legal order, and discuss a number of issues with particular focus on either “one-way” or mutual influences between the Eastern and the Western legal systems, practices and philosophies.
